The Heart of Zen: Zen represents a sectarian movement within the Buddist religion that stresses the practice of meditation as the means of enlightenment. Zen's roots may be traced to India, but it was in East Asia that the movement became distinct and flourished. It was established in Japan around 1200 AD.
